Transfer of pet ownership

Keeping your pet's registration details up-to-date helps us to reunite you quickly if they become lost.

Both the current and new owner must complete the Application to Transfer Dog/Cat Ownership(PDF, 314KB).

Please register your pet if you are:

  • transferring your pet registration from another Council
  • registering your pet with Council for the first time after purchase or adoption.

Note: Please call us on 1300 322 322 if your pet had a registration with us previously and you are returning to the municipality.

Step 1.Prepare your application

Download and complete the Application to Transfer Dog/Cat Ownership(PDF, 314KB) form. Both the current and new pet owner must complete and sign the application.  

Step 2.Submit your application

Send your completed form and supporting documents to:

info@frankston.vic.gov.au

Step 3.What happens next?

We will notify you of the outcome of your application.

If the pet's microchip record needs to be updated, please visit the Pet Address website to find out which registry you need to contact.
