Food Safety in Frankston City

Frankston City Council is committed to protecting and enhancing the health and wellbeing of the community by promoting high food safety standards across all local food businesses.

Our Environmental Health Officers play a key role by ensuring local food businesses follow the requirements of the Food Act 1984 and Australian Food Safety Standards. They work hard to keep the community safe by:

  • Conducting regular and unannounced inspections and assessments of all food businesses
  • Collecting food samples and taking part in local and state-wide food testing programs
  • Actioning food recalls to remove unsafe or incorrectly labelled food products from sale
  • Inspecting and registering new food businesses before they begin trading
  • Investigating food safety complaints about businesses within Frankston City

Making a Food Safety Complaint

While most food businesses in Frankston maintain excellent hygiene and safety practices, sometimes things can go wrong. If you’ve experienced or witnessed a food safety issue, we want to hear from you.

Council can investigate food safety complaints, such as:

  • Suspected food poisoning and outbreaks
  • Unclean or unhygienic food businesses
  • Food being sold from an unregistered business
  • Unsafe food handling or poor hygiene by staff
  • Incorrect or misleading allergen-free claims

Our Environmental Health team will investigate all food safety complaints about food businesses located within Frankston City.
