Work Ready Program

Local community members are gaining hands-on experience and building job-ready skills through Frankston City Council’s Work Ready Program.

Now in its fifth year, the program is designed to prepare participants for the workforce by offering a range of hands-on learning opportunities, including:

  • Work experience for secondary school students
  • Tertiary student placements
  • Structured workplace learning for VCAL students
  • School-based apprenticeships
  • Traineeships and apprenticeships

The program gives participants meaningful exposure to professional environments, where they are involved in day-to-day operations and supported throughout their journey. They receive on-the-job training tailored to their roles, develop practical, job-ready skills, and benefit from the guidance of mentors who help them build confidence and capability.

For those undertaking traineeships and apprenticeships, the program also includes a nationally recognised qualification, providing formal credentials alongside practical experience and setting them up for future career success.

These placements have been supported across various departments, including:

  • Information Technology
  • Library
  • Meals on Wheels
  • Youth Support
  • Frankston Arts Centre
  • Family Support Services
  • Mechanic Workshop
  • Building Infrastructure

  • Customer Service
  • Urban Design
  • Golf Course Management
  • Community Safety
  • City Future
  • Environmental Health
  • Capital Works
  • Community Strengthening
  • Maintenance

By providing hands-on experience, guidance, and career pathways, the Work Ready Program is helping build a skilled, confident workforce and empowering local residents to succeed in their future careers.

Work Experience - How to apply

Council understands and recognises the importance of Work Experience and Students Placements and the benefits they provide to both the student and Council.
