Community safety

Feeling safe in our streets, parks and public spaces is vital for a strong and connected community. Our community safety initiatives are all about creating welcoming places and ensuring support is close at hand when it’s needed most.

From expanding Rapid Response patrols across suburbs, to boosting our Community Connector program, funding Neighbourhood Watch, undertaking CCTV mapping and equipping Victoria Police, these initiatives strengthen safety and community confidence. Together, they make Frankston a safer, more supportive city where everyone can feel secure and included.

Rapid Response

Funding: $157,000 of additional funds

Council is expanding its Rapid Response patrols beyond the city centre, with a dedicated officer and vehicle delivering fast, on-the-spot action across our suburbs. From urgent maintenance to safety issues, the patrols will help keep streets, parks and public spaces clean, safe and welcoming – boosting amenity and community pride right across Frankston.

The expanded service is expected to roll out in November 2025

Community Connectors

Funding: $40,000 of additional funds, bringing the total funding to $240,000

With additional funding, the Community Connectors program – delivered by South East Community Links in partnership with Metro Trains and Vicinity Centres (Bayside Shopping Centre) – is being expanded to provide even greater support in Frankston’s city centre.

In their bright purple vests, Community Connectors are a friendly, on-the-ground presence around Frankston Station, Young Street and Station Street. They build trusted relationships with vulnerable individuals and link them to vital services such as housing, health care and food relief. By engaging early and often, they help reduce crisis situations and address challenges including homelessness, mental health concerns, substance misuse (when safe) and anti-social behaviour.

CCTV mapping

Funding: $1.5 million

Council will receive $1.5 million from the Australian Government for the installation of new CCTV cameras. The funding will strengthen community safety by deterring criminal activities and providing real-time surveillance and evidence for law enforcement.

Working closely with Victoria Police, this project will explore smarter surveillance options, including mobile and fixed cameras, to strengthen community safety.

By planning for a more connected and effective system, Council is investing in safer streets, stronger crime prevention and greater peace of mind for the community.

Scoping and feasibility for this project is currently underway.

Frankston Neighbourhood Watch

Funding: $10,000

Council is providing grant funding towards Neighbourhood Watch to strengthen community safety and connection. This support helps deliver local crime prevention initiatives, build awareness and foster a safer, more engaged community across Frankston.

Victoria Police – bikes

Funding: $ 5000

Council is providing two fully equipped bicycles and six-monthly servicing to Victoria Police, enhancing their ability to patrol local areas, engage directly with the community and boost police visibility.
