Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT)
VCAT was created on 1 July 1998 and amalgamated 15 boards and tribunals to offer a one stop shop dealing with a range of disputes, providing Victorians with access to a civil justice system which is modern, accessible, efficient and cost effective.
The Planning and Environment List is part of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), an independent tribunal, which hears and decides applications by permit applicants, objectors and others in an informal and expeditious manner and upon their merits. It permits a broad range of people whose interests are affected by a decision to participate in a hearing.
Once Council makes a decision on an application, a review by VCAT can be applied for by the permit applicant against conditions of a permit or a refusal to grant a permit, or alternatively by an objector against a Notice of Decision to grant a permit.
