Ballam Park East Oval Redevelopment September 2025-April 2026
- Project scheduleSeptember 2025 - April 2026
We’re upgrading Ballam Park East Oval by improving drainage and turf conditions to deliver a safer, more reliable, and fit-for-purpose playing surface, which will also reduce maintenance and operating costs.
The upgrade will include:
- New subsoil drainage
- A modern irrigation system
- New drought tolerant turf across ground
- Improving the interface between the pavilion and oval
- Realigning the cricket pitch to a north-south orientation
The improvements will help to increase participation in sports activities at the facility – include hosting finals.
The old oval surface will be recycled instead of going to landfill. The approach was trialed with the Frankston Oval upgrade in 2024/25 and proved successful and supports Council’s commitment to a circular economy.
This $1.35M project is being developed by Council in partnership with the Australian Football League, Netball Victoria, AFL Victoria and the Victorian Government.
Sports lighting
Council is committed to further enhancing Ballam East Oval by upgrading the sports lighting.
The Australian Government has pledged $225,000 – half the value – for the project, and Council has applied for funding for the remainder through the Victorian’s Government’s Country Football Netball Program. Results of the application are expected to be announced in October 2025.
