Councillor Claire Harvey grew up in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne before moving to Frankston in 2006 for reasons relating to family, lifestyle and housing affordability.
Following school, Claire initially studied at Bachelor of Commerce at Monash University with majors in Accounting, Administration and Management. She then worked as Finance Manager for an innovative software retailing firm before changing direction and returning to study, this time in theology.
Since 2000, Claire has juggled part-time employment in diverse roles including training, business administration, human resource management, recruitment and carbon accounting, along with other personal passion projects, and parenting.
In 2017, Claire completed a Graduate Certificate in Career Development Practice, while working as the Careers Coordinator at a local school.
Claire is passionate about action on climate change, waste reduction and moving toward models of a circular economy. She is also passionate about helping people live well in their homes and neighbourhoods, hence her desire to add diversity to our housing supply (for example, sustainable design/cohousing) and her support for modes of travel and transport that allow locals to become less car dependant.
Claire has enjoyed the challenge and steep learning curve associated with being a new Councillor. She is deeply appreciative of the opportunity to serve her community and to meet so many wonderful people who care about the future of Frankston City as much as she does.
Claire is currently a Council delegate to the following committees and groups:
- South East Councils Climate Change Alliance
- Peninsula Leisure Pty Ltd Board
- Australian Local Government Women’s Association
- Housing Advisory Committee
When not busy juggling parenting, work and Council duties, Claire enjoys long walks along the foreshore or in one of our many wonderful nature reserves, reading books, listening to podcasts, growing veggies, and having interesting conversations with friends. On occasions you might even find Claire playing the drums or getting back to some ballroom dancing – hobbies she enjoyed in her youth and continues to enjoy to this day, albeit much less often!
