Pop-up studio to take centre stage at Frankston Street Art Festival

Eye-catching artworks and a flurry of creativity will replace the cobwebs and dust collected in a dormant retail space within Bayside Shopping Centre during Frankston City Council’s Street Art Festival later this month.
The vacant shop will be converted into a pop-up Street Art Studio between Thursday 19 March - Sunday 22 March, giving shoppers a behind-the-scenes look how artists put their murals, graffiti writing, paste up and cut outs together in real time.
The exhibit will be a highlight of the ninth edition of the Festival, running from 16 – 22 March, where leading Australian and international talent transform the City’s laneways into an epicentre of colour and creativity in a free week-long celebration.
A Launch Party on the final Saturday of the Festival will bring artists, drinks and music together in celebration of the space, with the studio remaining open on Saturdays for a further eight weeks, when masterpieces can then be snapped up through a silent auction.
More than 90 murals will adorn the City for the Festival, including nine large-scale pieces, developed by feature artists including Buff Diss, Creature Creature, Father Marker, Juzpop, Jack Rowland and more.
Rowland, a renowned Melbourne artist, is currently giving visitors to Frankston a taste of what is to come ahead of the Festival getting underway, having taken over Frankston Arts Centre’ Cube Gallery with a selection of pieces from his Hyper State selection of hyper-saturated realist landscapes.
Frankston City Council Mayor, Sue Baker said the Frankston Street Art Festival reflected the City’s vibrant arts and culture identity, which has been recognised at a national level.
In 2024, Frankston’s Street Art Tours have made history by winning gold at the Australian Street Art Awards for the third successive year.
“With more than 90 pieces of street art and 80 sculptures dotted throughout the municipality, Frankston’s urban arts culture reputation is well-established,” Mayor Baker said.
“Our capacity to draw international artists to be a part of the Festival will only serve to strengthen that standing and draw more eyes to our City. “I’m so excited to see the City celebrate its passion for the arts, and the different pieces that will be on display.”
Council’s Street Art Tours will offer a more in-depth look at the background and stories behind the creations and creators, and Workshops in the Frankston Library Forecourt will provide young people the chance to bring their ideas to life, learning the tricks of the trade from a professional artist in an unforgettable hands-on experience.
Arina Aposolova will return to Frankston as a featured artist, having been crowned Last year’s People’s Choice Award winner for her stunning nature-inspired murals.
Attendees will have the opportunity to vote on a new winner for 2026.
The Street Art Festival is a key pillar in Frankston City Council’s broader Destination Events Strategy, which aims to provide high quality visitor experiences in unique spaces, while boosting the local economy and building on the City’s positioning as a vibrant and creative place to live and visit.
“Alongside Waterfront Festival, South Side Festival and the new Winter Fire Festival, the Street Art Festival represents another affordable and family-friendly activity for the Frankston community,” Mayor Baker said.
