Pets to take over Ballam Park for the Mayor’s Great Pet-Together

Frankston City Council Mayor Sue Baker and her beloved four-legged companion, Meg are extending an invitation to pets of all shapes and sizes, their owners and all animal lovers to the Mayor’s Great Pet-Together next month.
Scheduled for Sunday 4 October at Ballam Park, the Mayor’s Great Pet-Together is an event dedicated to the best friends of Frankston City residents, bringing the community together for a free, fun pet-friendly day out.
Frankston City is home to more than 14,000 dogs and 6,000 cats, along with reptiles, mice, rabbits and more much-loved companions that provide love and joy to their owners every day.
More than 6,000 people and their pets piled into Ballam Park last year for the event as it made its much-anticipated return, in a day chock full of pats, tummy rubs and wagging tails.
Mayor Baker said that pets are integral parts of Frankston City families and deserve their own day to be celebrated.
“This event will offer the opportunity to spend more time out and about with your pet, learn something new, and strengthen the bonds with the local community, all in the name of supporting our loyal pets,” Mayor Baker said.
“Whether it’s taking a dog for a walk or the affection they show you when you get home, pets play such an important role in their owners’ lives, just as the owners do on their pets.
“Speaking on Meg’s behalf, I know she’s keen to meet some new friends and be spoilt rotten at this event. We’ll both be there – please come and say hello.”
The full itinerary is coming together to guide your time at the event and help you best experience all that is on offer.
Activities include the Wag and Walk Community Dog Walk at 10.30am, competitions including Best Dressed and pet/owner lookalikes, to the popular Dachshund Dash and pup-cup eating competition will keep attendees entertained throughout the day.
More than 50 specialty market stalls and exhibitors will be on site, selling all sorts of pet-related products and services to strengthen the relationship between owners and their pets, along with animal-focussed organisations including Peninsula Cat Rescue, Vision Australia Seeing Eye Dogs, and the Australian Rat Fanciers Society.
There will also be food vendors to keep owners full and refreshed.
Wildlife encounters and a live Butterfly Gazebo will also allow attendees to get up close and personal with popular animals not often owned as pets.
Ballam Park is an ideal location to host the Mayor’s Great Pet-Together thanks to its fully-fenced dog agility park, with hurdles, ramps and tunnels to test even the most athletic canines.
Those of you who are choosing to bring your pet are required to keep dogs on their lead, and other animals securely contained, for the safety of all attendees.
Dog owners are also asked to bring dog poo bags, to clean up after their animal and keep the area clean and hygienic for everyone.
Frankston City has a proud history of being a community that values responsible pet ownership, protects its natural environment, and supports the wellbeing of all who call our city home, including our much-loved dogs and cats.
Our Domestic Animal Management Plan 2026–2029 (DAMP), adopted by Council in November 2025, strengthens this commitment by setting a clear, balanced and forward-looking approach to how we manage domestic animals across our growing municipality.
