"Come out and take a look for yourselves."

That's the message from local resident, wheelchair user, and bike rider Dion Woodward to State Election candidates in Frankston, Carrum and Hastings, as he invites them to experience firsthand the challenges of navigating one of Frankston's key missing shared user path links along Fletcher Road.
Whether he's travelling by wheelchair or riding his bespoke bike, Dion values the freedom to get around independently and stay connected to his community, especially when it comes to meeting friends for a coffee or enjoying all that Frankston has to offer.
But that's not always easy.
For Dion, what should be a straightforward journey can quickly become challenging when shared user paths suddenly end, safe connections are missing, or he has to navigate busy roads to continue his trip. Along Fletcher Road, high traffic volumes, difficult crossings and broken connections create additional challenges. When he's travelling with a support worker, he's also concerned about their safety too.
That's why Dion is inviting candidates to experience it for themselves.
Walk the route. Ride the route. See the hazards. See the opportunities.
A shared user path connection along Fletcher Road would help close one of the most significant gaps in Frankston's network, creating a safer connection between the city centre and major education and health destinations.
For Dion, and many others, connected shared user paths aren't just about getting from A to B. They're about independence, inclusion and the freedom to move around the community safely and confidently.
Council has already committed $5.85 million towards five shared user path projects, including Fletcher Road, that will help people of all ages and abilities stay active, access education and services, connect with their community and reduce reliance on cars.
Ahead of the State Election, we're calling on all candidates to put Frankston City First by matching this funding and helping deliver safer connections for our community.
