As a Kitchen Volunteer, you will play an important role in preparing fresh, nutritious meals for our community. Working alongside a friendly team of volunteers, you'll help transform rescued and donated food into delicious plant-based meals that are distributed free of charge through our community programs and community fridges. 
Every meal prepared helps to reduce food waste while ensuring more 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Assist with preparing fresh ingredients, including washing, peeling, cutting and chopping fruit and vegetables. 

  • Support meal preparation and cooking under the guidance of a qualified chef and experienced kitchen volunteers. 

  • Package freshly prepared meals for distribution to our community fridges and outreach programs. 

  • Help maintain a clean, organised and safe kitchen throughout each shift. 

  • Wash dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment. 

  • Assist with cleaning and packing down the kitchen at the end of the shift. 

  • Always follow safe food handling and hygiene practices. 

  • Work collaboratively and respectfully with other volunteers. 

What We're Looking For 

We're looking for volunteers who are: 

  • Friendly, reliable and willing to work as part of a team. 

  • Passionate about supporting the community and reducing food waste. 

  • Willing to follow food safety procedures and kitchen instructions. 

  • Respectful, inclusive and committed to creating a welcoming environment for everyone. 

  • Able to undertake light kitchen duties, including standing for periods of time and lifting light to moderate items where required. 

Requirements 

  • An understanding of, and commitment to, the mission and values of Project Fresh Start. 

  • A current National Police Check. 

  • A current Working with Children Check. 

  • Agreement to comply with the Project Fresh Start Code of Conduct. 

  • Completion of our free online Safe Food Handling course (approximately 10–15 minutes) before commencing.
