Heatherhill Road safety upgrades

Update: May 2025

Improvement works are currently underway on Heatherhill Road to enhance traffic conditions. Once completed, these upgrades will improve pedestrian safety and help reduce vehicle speeds, especially during peak hours.

Key improvements include:

  • Upgrading three roundabouts at Lardner Road, Brooklyn Avenue, and Kalmia Street
  • Installing new splitter islands and pedestrian crossings
  • Resurfacing Heatherhill Road between Frankston-Flinders Road and Kalmia Street

Council has carefully considered feedback from local residents, Frankston Heights Primary School, nearby kindergartens, and local businesses, regarding traffic concerns about safety in this busy area.

The design of the roundabouts features new mountable kerbs on the central islands – these are specifically aimed at reducing vehicle speeds while still allowing safe navigation for larger vehicles.

What’s happening now?

Road resurfacing will begin on Saturday, 31 May and will take about one week (weather permitting). Once completed, this will significantly improve driving comfort through the upgraded roundabouts.

What’s still to come?

Some minor rectification works are planned for the Brooklyn Avenue and Kalmia Street roundabouts during the July school holidays.

These will address visual and structural concerns noted by the community.

Project timeline:

  • May 31 – Early June: Final asphalt resurfacing.
  • Early June: Majority of project completed.
  • Early July: Minor rectification works at Brooklyn Avenue and Kalmia Street.

Local residents, schools, and businesses have been notified ahead of works, and Variable Message Signs (VMS) are in place to keep road users informed.

This important $1.1 million safety upgrade is being delivered with the support of $967,000 from the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery program.
