Community urged to buy in Frankston City in June for Think Local month
Published on 08 May 2026
Frankston City business, producers and service providers are gearing up for one of their most exciting periods of the year, with the return of Think Local month to inspire and encourage spending within Frankston City.
Think Local month, running throughout June, encourages businesses and community members to consider what products and services exist within Frankston City first, before purchasing, making a reservation, or engaging a business from surrounding local government areas.
Frankston City Council in collaboration with the Frankston Business Chamber are driving the initiative, with a focus on supporting the small and medium-sized businesses in the area to strengthen the local workforce and economic development.
There are more than 40,000 businesses registered in Frankston City – of those 98% are small businesses, which have an annual turnover of less than $10M.
By supporting those entities, locals can play their part to make Frankston City the best place to live, work, play, learn and invest.
Whether it be Frankston, Seaford, Carrum Downs, Skye, Langwarrin, Langwarrin South, Karingal, Frankston North or South, our city has everything you need right here.
Frankston City Council Mayor, Sue Baker, said local businesses are the heart of our economy and stressed the importance of showing them some love.
“Think Local month is a terrific opportunity for community members to show their support for their favourite local businesses and encourage their friends and family to do the same,” Mayor Baker said.
“We are so fortunate to have such a variety of business offerings here in Frankston City to cater for our entire community, from manufacturing, construction, retail and hospitality to homebased services, health care, beauty and real estate – there’s really no need to look elsewhere.
“We know that when Australians spend on small businesses within the community, the majority of that money stays local, distributed between the staff, local suppliers and business owners. By comparison, spending at retail chains or franchises sees the money distributed further amongst shareholders, administrators and executives.
“It’s important that we show these businesses how much we appreciate the fact that they are local, supporting the economy, jobs and encouraging investment in our area.
“Think Local month is not only a great opportunity to continue to support your favourite local entities, but also to discover a new boutique shop, service or restaurant within the municipality.”
The Frankston City Business Directory is a one-stop shop for finding local businesses to support, a trusted online resource with more than 450 local businesses to help connect and promote local businesses within Frankston City.
Retailers can join the directory for free, helping residents and other businesses to find local trades, retailers, services and home-based businesses.
“Think Local means changing your mindset, thinking about spending local for the greater good of our small businesses and for strengthening our local economy,” Frankston Business Chamber CEO, Bernadine Geary said.
“When we choose to spend locally, the benefits ripple throughout the entire community.
“Frankston Business Chamber will proudly stand alongside Frankston City Council to achieve positive outcomes for our brilliant business community.”
Beyond just spending, residents are encouraged to follow and support local businesses on social media, leave positive reviews, using the #FrankstonCityThinkLocal when posting and tag @FrankstonCity.
There will also be a number of free events for our business owners and leaders throughout the month to celebrate and profile the local business community, along with training, information and mentoring sessions.
