Carrum Downs has a brand-new outdoor community hub, with the completion of the $4.95 million Sandfield Reserve Precinct Revitalisation Project delivering a vibrant, safe, inclusive space for people of all ages.

Funded by all three levels of government following Council’s successful 2022 pre-election advocacy campaign, the transformation features:

  • Youth-focused precinct including a multi-sports court, skate park upgrades, and parkour elements (completed late last year)
  • An upgraded play space with water and nature play, and accessible equipment
  • Outdoor fitness equipment, walking and running circuits, new public toilets, BBQs, and picnic facilities
  • Improved lighting, pathways, landscaping, and shade.

Deputy Mayor Cr Steffie Conroy, who grew up in Carrum Downs, said the project is especially close to her heart and she couldn’t be prouder of the outcome and what it will mean for the local community.

“Carrum Downs is growing fast, with more families choosing to make their home here. The first Sandfield Reserve play space was built 26 years ago, then another added in 2004 and fenced in 2015, so it’s great to see the community getting the investment and infrastructure upgrades it deserves.

“Alongside upgrades at Carrum Downs Recreation Reserve and other local projects, this shows Council’s commitment to investing in the health, wellbeing, and safety of our community.

“Council is also grateful to the Australian and Victorian Governments for understanding our vision and working with us and the community to make it a reality.”

This project is the final stage in Council’s delivery of the Sandfield Reserve Master Plan 2021, which was kickstarted with the development of the park’s popular dog park featuring agility equipment, off leash areas and shaded seating for dog owners.

The revitalisation is also part of a broader plan by Council to support Carrum Downs and neighbouring Skye communities, including:

  • Carrum Downs Recreation Reserve upgrades – new district play space, public toilets, and tennis facilities, and upgraded car parking and lighting improvements, along with road safety improvements on Wedge Road.
  • McCormicks precinct Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) - road safety improvements informed by community input.
  • Banyan Fields play space upgrade and pump track – following community consultation earlier this year and further investigations, Council is working in partnership with the Victorian Government which made a $1.5million funding commitment to deliver this project by 2026.
  • Open space upgrades recently completed: Play spaces at Brolga, Heysen and Lady Emily Reserves, and Lavender Hills multi-use court.
  • Play space upgrades coming soon: Heritage and Gamble Reserves (2025-26) and Rotary Reserve (2026-27)

Jodie Belyea MP, Federal Member for Dunkley:

“It’s crucial that local facilities support the people who live here—our families, our kids, our volunteers. I am so proud that we’ve been able to invest in Sandfield Reserve, working in partnership with Council and the Victorian Government, to deliver a space designed by and for our community.”

Hon. Sonya Kilkenny MP, State Member for Carrum:

“This is a great example of what can be achieved when the community is at the centre of planning. Sandfield Reserve is now a vibrant and inclusive place where families can connect, be active, and enjoy the outdoors. The Victorian Government is proud to partner with Council and the Australian Government to deliver this wonderful space for Carrum Downs.”
