Local community groups receive ~$70K to boost connection & inclusion

Local community groups across Frankston City are set to deliver a wave of inclusive projects, after receiving almost $70,000 in funding through a targeted initiative led by the Social Inclusion Action Group (SIAG) Frankston, a group of local volunteers who help guide where funding is invested across the Frankston City community to support connection and inclusion.
Twelve grassroots organisations have been supported through the one-off funding round, with projects designed to create more opportunities for people to connect, participate and feel included. From community gardens and youth-led events to disability inclusion initiatives, the projects reflect the strength, diversity and generosity of Frankston’s community.
For organisations like Joy of the Earth and Groundswell Community Gardens, funding will help raise garden beds to waist height to help ensure older adults, and people with disability or limited mobility can still enjoy the many wellbeing benefits of community gardening.
“It’s more than raising garden beds, it’s also about raising participation, connection, and community” says Joy of the Earth Committee President, Kylie Fryer.
Julie Fisher, who will deliver a Local Disability Expo in October at Mt Erin Secondary College with her SIAG funding, said the work was deeply personal.
“As a mum of a child with disability, I’ve seen both the barriers people face and the incredible things that happen when communities choose inclusion.”
For Frankston Life, funding for a free community arts program at Bloom Cafe “gives participants access to a life-changing service that helps them feel part of the community” said Community Engagement Officer, Jessica Lucerne.
SIAG Frankston volunteer, Emma, said the funding is about building on what already makes Frankston special.
“Frankston is an incredibly neighbourly place, and I’d like to see more investment in the kindness and warmth of its community groups to provide accessible opportunities to reach people who need it most.”
