Community invited to help shape the future of Frankston City Libraries

Frankston City Council is inviting the community to help shape the future of its library network, with community consultation now open to guide the next 20 years of library services, spaces and experiences.

Community members are encouraged to share what they value most about their local library and what they want to see in the future, whether they are regular library users, occasional visitors or have never used a library before.

Feedback will help inform the development of a new Library Master Plan, which will guide future planning and investment across Frankston City Libraries.

Frankston City Mayor Cr Sue Baker said libraries had evolved well beyond places to borrow books and remained an essential part of community life.

"Today's libraries are places where people come to learn, connect, access technology, develop new skills and participate in community life," Cr Baker said.

"As our community continues to grow and change, it's important that our libraries evolve too. We want to hear from people of all ages and backgrounds about what they value most and what they want from their local library over the next 20 years."

Council recently completed a Library Network Analysis, which identified opportunities to strengthen library services, facilities and programs to better meet the needs of a growing and changing community.

Feedback received during the consultation will be considered alongside the Analysis, community needs, service data and other supporting research before any future planning or investment decisions are made.

Community members can have their say by completing an online survey or attending one of several in-person engagement sessions being held across the municipality throughout the consultation period.

The consultation builds on previous community engagement undertaken in 2020 and 2022, which helped shape the current Library Action Plan, and reflects Council's commitment to ensuring future library services are informed by the people who use them.

Community engagement is now open until 11.59pm on Wednesday, 30 September 2026.
