The road to Baxter Park's future starts at the front gate

Every weekend, before the first footy is kicked, horses are unloaded or the first arrow is released, visitors to Baxter Park face the same challenge – navigating an ageing entrance road that is no longer fit for one of Frankston City's busiest community sporting precincts.
For the soccer and football players, archers, horse riders, cricketers, volunteers, and families who use the reserve every week, the access road has become a growing safety concern and the biggest barrier to unlocking Baxter Park's full potential.
As participation continues to grow across the many sports that call Baxter Park home, the current access road is struggling to keep up. Congestion, deteriorating road conditions and the mix of vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and horse floats create unnecessary safety risks for the hundreds of people who use the reserve every week.
That's why Frankston City Council is advocating for $3.6 million in State Government funding to deliver the first stage of the Baxter Park Master Plan.
The project will upgrade the reserve's ageing entry road and deliver new multi-sports courts near the entrance, creating a safer, more welcoming gateway while expanding opportunities for community sport and recreation.
The proposed multi-use courts will be designed for futsal, tennis, and netball use. They will support the Frankston Bombers Football Netball Club who play out of Baxter Park, as well as the Frankston Dolphins Football Netball Club to assist the expansion of their current programming, while boosting casual and community participation across a range of sports and abilities in this popular reserve, which services the growing communities of Frankston South and surrounding suburbs.
Together, these improvements will lay the foundation for the broader Baxter Park Master Plan, unlocking future investment in sporting facilities, community infrastructure and public spaces that will benefit the community for decades to come.
