National AusAlert Test – Monday 27 July at 2pm

Residents are advised that the Australian Government will conduct a national test of the AusAlert system on Monday 27 July at 2pm AEST.

During the test, compatible mobile devices across Australia will receive a Critical Alert notification. Devices may vibrate, emit a loud siren-like sound and display a test message, even if they are set to silent or "Do Not Disturb" mode.

While this is only a test, the alert may be unexpected or distressing for some people, including people experiencing family violence, older people, children, people with disability, neurodivergent people, and those living with anxiety, trauma or PTSD.

People who use a concealed or hidden mobile phone as part of a safety plan should be aware that the alert may sound on that device. The Women's Services Network (WESNET) recommends considering turning the device off or placing it in aeroplane mode before the test and keeping it off or in aeroplane mode for 24 hours.
