Frankston City Council is strengthening its commitment to community safety and health by delivering two targeted investments as part of its $1.7 million local support package.

Council has approved $20,000 in funding to the Victorian Police Blue Ribbon Foundation – Peninsula Branch to deliver health and safety initiatives in the community, whilst recognising the incredible work that Victoria Police continue to do on behalf of the community.

The funds will directly support the Foundation’s work in providing life-saving medical equipment to local hospitals including the purchase of two Fetal Monitoring Ultrasound machines to reduce stillbirth rates.

The Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation remembers and recognises the sacrifice of our fallen police officers by creating worthwhile community projects to preserve their memory and service to the community.

Frankston City Councillor Nathan Butler said the investment reflects Council’s ongoing partnership with police and local volunteers to create a safer and more resilient community.

“Our police officers and volunteers make an incredible difference in protecting and supporting our community. This investment not only honours those who serve but also directly impacts safety and wellbeing for Frankston residents,” he said.

Cr Butler also acknowledged the difficult circumstances police officers are facing across the state, noting the recent tragic loss of two officers at Porepunkah, which deeply impacted the entire community.

“Our police officers are doing so much more with less and deserve all the credit in the world. Despite immense pressure, they continue to show courage and commitment every day, and our community stands with them.”

Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation Peninsula Branch President Mr Darryl Nation said the partnership with Council will make a real difference to local families.

“The investment from Frankston Council to the Peninsula Branch of the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation is very much appreciated and will be immediately used to purchase one Fetal Monitoring Ultrasound Machine for Frankston Hospital for all mothers and their babies on the Peninsula. Hopefully giving them extra piece of mind during pregnancy,” Mr Nation said.

Council also provided $10,000 in funding to support the re-establishment of Neighborhood Watch Frankston through a partnership with local residents, Neighbourhood Watch Victoria, and Frankston Police.

Neighbourhood Watch Frankston builds on a proud local legacy, with Frankston home to the very first Neighbourhood Watch group in Victoria, launched in 1982, marking the beginning of what has become one of Australia’s most recognisable community safety movements.

The group works to educate residents on crime prevention techniques and encourage community vigilance. It runs monthly community meetings with guest speakers, supports Frankston Police in engagement activities, and maintains an active social media presence to share safety information and crime prevention tips.

“Neighbourhood Watch Frankston empowers residents to take practical steps to prevent crime and stay informed,” Cr Butler said.

“This partnership helps build safer streets, stronger connections, and a greater sense of community pride.”

Neighbourhood Watch Frankston Founding Member Nick de Kunder said the support from Council will help the group continue the legacy that began more than four decades ago.

“It’s an honour that Neighbourhood Watch first started right here in Frankston back in 1982, and that spirit of neighbours looking out for neighbours still runs strong today,” Mr Kunder said.

“With Council’s backing, we’re able to expand our education and outreach programs, bring more people together, and help make Frankston one of the safest and most connected cities in Victoria.”
