Overhanging branches or plants sticking out through a fence can be dangerous for pedestrians and traffic (especially older residents and visually impaired pedestrians).
You are required to:
- keep shrubs and branches cut back to the property line
- make sure any branches over the footpath are kept at a minimum height of 2.5 metres above the ground.
Property owners or occupiers may be served a Notice to Comply if branches / plants are overhanging onto Council land and are:
- causing a problem
- considered dangerous to pedestrians
- causing visual obstruction to vehicles.
Disputes involving overhanging branches from a neighbouring property must be resolved between neighbours. Visit our neighbourhood disputes page for more information.
