Council has completed a number of improvements to the Carrum Downs Recreation Reserve on Wedge Road. Major works are already completed, with minor works still to occur.
New Pavilion
A new $3.85 million multi-purpose sporting pavilion for the growing Carrum Downs and Skye communities has been officially opened on 16 August 2018 to allow for increased participation in female and junior sports.
The project was jointly funded by Council ($2.7 million), the Victorian Government ($1.05 million), a Melbourne Water Living Rivers Grant ($55,000) and the Carrum Downs Junior Football Club ($50,000).
The new pavilion provides quality facilities for local sports clubs and also for general recreation use by the local community, featuring:
- A multi-purpose community social room and kitchen kiosk area
- An associated kitchen/kiosk area, which the community is welcome to utilise
- Four change rooms and associated amenities
- Office space
- Community meeting rooms
- Storage
- Umpires change rooms
- First Aid
- Public toilets
- Recycled water
- Solar panels
- LED lighting
Synthetic Multi-purpose Sporting Field
A new $2.8 million synthetic multi-purpose sporting field featuring a central cricket wicket, lighting, fencing and various line markings is scheduled to be completed in mid-November. This is another partnership with the Victorian Government who have provided $500,000 alongside Council's $2.3 million.
The synthetic surface will revolutionise the playing and training experience for sporting clubs. The development will include lighting for night matches and will be available year-round for sporting groups and clubs.
