A $10,000 grant from Frankston City Council will help community groups to kick goals for the disadvantaged at a free Christmas Day lunch to be hosted at Frankston Football Club’s SkyBus Stadium.

South Ward Cr Liam Hughes said the Council was proud to support the annual Frankston Life Community Christmas lunch, which is expected to be attended by up to 500 people and 150 volunteers.

“The annual free Christmas Day lunch gives heart to the disadvantaged and isolated. It’s a wonderful example of the true meaning of Christmas.

“Christmas is about giving – that’s why the Council has provided Frankston Life Community with a $10,000 grant to Frankston Life Community for the festive lunch and associated activities, along with its continued support to Frankston Football Club through infrastructure investment and related assistance,” Cr Hughes said.

The $10,000 grant was part of the Council’s $6.434 million Relief and Recovery Package to help individuals, community groups and business through COVID-19.

The annual Frankston Life Community Christmas lunch has been held at Frankston Arts Centre in recent years, but will be held as an outdoor event at SkyBus Stadium in 2020 in line with COVID safe practices.

Frankston Football Club CEO Adrian Lloyd said the club was proud to ensure the event continued by hosting it at their home ground.

“We’ve worked closely with Frankston Life Community to bring Christmas spirit and joy to the needy. Frankston Football Club is part of the community and through this contribution we can give back, particularly in a year when so many have done it tough,” Mr Lloyd said.

“The club is making its commercial kitchens available for use on the day and we’ve also liaised with our partners, Bertocchi Smallgoods and Coulson Party Hire, who are respectively supplying ham and tables and chairs. Everyone deserves to celebrate Christmas and to see SkyBus Stadium full of so many smiling faces is what it’s all about.”

Frankston Life Community Chief Executive Officer, Pastor Mark Whitby, praised all those who had done so much to make this year’s lunch a reality.

“This is our 19th lunch and one of the things that always hits me is the way our community come together on Christmas Day. It says something very strongly about the spirit of Frankston that we look after each other,” Pastor Whitby said.

All guests at the lunch will receive a gift. Those who would like to donate a gift can do so at the Christmas Giving Tree at Frankston Library. Unwrapped gifts worth $20 or less and suitable for a child up to the age of 16 can be donated and placed under the Christmas Giving Tree at Frankston Library until Monday, 21 December.
