The pedestrian footpath network length is 966km, and is divided into 24 neighbourhood zones on a 2 year cyclic inspection program for hazard repair works. An annual budget of $700,000 is allocated to the maintenance of footpaths.
Each year 12 neighbourhood zones are completed ensuring the total municipality is serviced
Inspectors create the maintenance plan based on tolerable defect levels, so that the most important hazards are completed first. Priority for pathways maintenance is shopping centres, bus routes and schools. These priorities also are applied to the cycleway network
On average, Council budgets $2.5 million per annum to the maintenance and renewal of the pedestrian and cycle network.
