Your chance to represent your community for the next four years
Are you a passionate Frankston City resident who wants to make your community even better? Have you thought about running for Council?
With the 24 October elections quickly approaching, Council is hosting a Zoom Candidate Information Session on Thursday 30 July so that potential candidates can find out more about the role of councillors and requirements during the election period.
Frankston City Mayor, Sandra Mayer, encouraged those interested in running for Council to tune in to the session and learn how they could shape their city.
“As I come to the end of my 12 years in local government, I would strongly recommend any interested candidates come forward for a chance give back to their community.
“While being a Councillor can be a lot of hard work, it is extremely rewarding. I have met so many incredible residents and volunteers and been involved in some great projects throughout my journey.
“In Frankston City, our people really are our greatest asset and being a Councillor gives you an opportunity to improve and enrich lives over each four-year term.”
The Mayor is an advocate for the Tap Her on the Shoulder campaign, which challenges members of the community to ask five women to run for election.
For 50 per cent of elected Councillors to be women, about 1000 female candidates will need to run in the Victorian Local Government elections.
“We know that one of the biggest barriers to women is the lack of confidence to run for election.
“The women in our community have so much to offer and in order to make sure we have a fair representation in local government we need more women to stand.
“If you have been thinking about ways to contribute, please register for our Candidate Information Session and find out more about being a Councillor.”
