Sandfield Reserve precinct revitalisation
We’ve brought the Sandfield Reserve Master Plan to life by transforming this popular Carrum Downs open space into an exciting and accessible precinct for all ages, abilities, and interests to enjoy.
With more and more families relocating to Carrum Down for the lifestyle and services, this precinct revitalisation is another way council is supporting the health and wellbeing of this growing community.
The $4.95 million project was funded by Council is partnership with the Australian and Victorian Governments and was informed by feedback from the community.
Features to explore
- Dog park: featuring agility equipment, off leash areas and shaded seating for dog owners (completed in 2021).
- New multi-sports court for basketball and netball, rebound and climbing walls parkour equipment
- Upgraded and new sections of the skate park
- Seating, tables, and shelters
- New paving and landscaping
- Upgraded play space for senior and junior play with increased accessibility including water play, swings, a basket swing, fencing and landscaping, more shade, nature play.
- Public toilets near the play space
- Multi-use kick-about space, outdoor fitness equipment, circuits for low impact (walking) and high impact (running) exercise
- Picnic shelter and BBQ, and more trees and plants.
Community engagement
We gathered community feedback for these upgrades during the development of the master plan and then again before upgrading the youth space (see the engagement reports below
People were asked what would make them visit the reserve more often, and the most popular responses were:
- Public toilets - 65.9 percent
- Improved paths and lighting for walking and exercise – 64.7 percent
- Upgraded playground – 57.6 percent
- Picnic and BBQ facilities – 55.3 percent
- Community event and food truck zone - 50.6 percent
They were also asked what they would like to see in an upgraded play space:
- Improved shade and seating - 63.3 percent
- Adventure play (Ropes/Rock Climbing) - 62.0 percent
- Nature based play - 59.5 percent
- Swings/Slides - 41.8 percent
- Sensory play - 40.5 percent
These have all been included in the revitalisation project!
