Statement from the Mayor: Building a better Ballarto Road

Thursday 7 February 2019

This week’s funding announcement from the Federal Government to upgrade Ballarto Road is welcome news for the local Carrum Downs and Skye communities.

This $30 million in budgeted funds for intersection upgrades along Ballarto Road including Greenwood Drive, Dion Drive, Potts Road and elsewhere will make the journey for hundreds of people safer and quicker.

In the past ten years we’ve seen the Carrum Downs and Skye communities grow significantly in population. Ballarto Road remains congested throughout the day even outside of peak hours, carrying over 12,000 vehicles each day.

Council has advocated to VicRoads on behalf of concerned residents for a number of years to have Ballarto Road upgraded and today we’re delighted to see the Federal Government is taking action.

I’d like to thank our local Federal Member for Dunkley Chris Crewther, Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Minister for Cities, Urban Infrastructure and Population Alan Tudge for taking the time to visit Carrum Downs and for investing in our community’s safety through this vital upgrade.

Cr Michael O’Reilly
Frankston City Mayor
