VicRoads Asphalt Works - Young Street, Frankston

Location: Young Street, Frankston

Description of Works: VicRoads will replace the top wearing surface. Each night, works will start at approximately 10.40 pm (after the last bus) and conclude by 5am (before the first bus). During that time access will still be available for adjacent residents and businesses. Buses will be able to continue operating along Young Street under direction of traffic controllers.

Timing of Works: The overnight re-sealing of Young Street is planned for the Sunday 24 February and Monday 25 February, 2019.

McClelland Reserve Works

Location: McClelland Drive, Frankston

Description of Works: Council is working to reconfigure the dog free roam and Frankston Dog Obedience Club grounds. The works include top dressing the area with soil to remove damage from pond water caused by previous heavy rains. The club grounds and dog free roam area will remain closed until mid-April 2019 to allow grass to re-establish. A contractor was also appointed to undertake car park works at the McClelland Reserve car park, which commenced in mid-February.  The car park works are being staged to ensure minimal impact for reserve users and the 2019 soccer season. The first section will be the southern section near the soccer club rooms. Once these works are completed, the contractor will open this section of car park and begin works on the northern section.  

Timing of Works: Commencing 20 February 2019, works expected to be completed mid April.

Disruption Expected: The club grounds and dog free roam area will remain closed until mid April.

Warrandyte Road, Langwarrin - Road Widening and Reconstruction

Location: Warrandyte Road, Langwarrin (between Robinsons Road and Healsview Court)

Description of Works: The scope of works includes repaving the existing road surface and gravel shoulders with asphalt. The works will also include the installation of new stormwater drainage, limited sections of kerb and channel, and associated reinstatements to vehicle crossings and nature strips.

Timing of Works: Works are scheduled to commence mid-Feb 2019 and are expected to take 2 months to complete, subject to weather and site conditions.

Disruptions Expected:  For short periods of time, vehicle detours and temporary lane closures may be in place, with access to properties and local traffic maintained for the majority of works. Detoured traffic will be directed via Robinsons Road / Fulton’s Road / Golf Links Road.  Traffic controllers will be onsite whilst works are in progress to assist with property access.

Fiocchi Avenue Kayak Ramp Renewal

Location: Fiocchi Avenue, Frankston

Timing of Works: Works are scheduled to commence at the end of February, 2019 with The new improved platform is expected to be open for use in March.   

Disruption Expected: The kayak ramp will be unavailable until works are completed.

Sweetwater Creek Suspension Bridge Renewal

Location: Sweetwater Creek Reserve at the rear of Fleetwood Crescent, Frankston South

Description of Works: The scope of works includes renewal of all timber elements of the structure, repairs and repainting of steelwork, and re-tensioning of the cable suspension system.

- Works to renew the Sweetwater Creek Suspension Bridge have been significantly delayed due to unexpected circumstances.

- Demolition revealed several components required more work than first anticipated, and some additional components required replacement.

- To ensure renewal is completed to the required standard, further structural engineering assessments were required to be undertaken. Whilst these checks have been in progress, no works have been able to be completed at site.

Timing of Works: Investigations are now complete and works will recommence onsite in mid-January 2019. The bridge will remain closed for several weeks whilst works are undertaken.

Disruption Expected: The bridge will be closed for the duration of works. Appropriate advanced signage and a detour route will be in place as shown below. Detours are in place to alternate creek crossing points near Grange Road and Parkside Grove. The Action Sweetwater Creek Group has been consulted with as part of this project. We apologise to reserve users for the extended delay and request that walkers continue to cross at the alternate creek crossings to the north and south.

Beach Street West Street Scape Upgrade

Description of Works:   The scope of works includes:

  • Demolition includes Excavation of existing pavement
  • New footpath and realignment with old continuing footpaths
  • Planting bed,
  • Trellis with Climber Planting
  • Pram crossing.
  • Installation of new Bins and seats
  • Other ancillary works to complete

Timing of Works: Commencing Monday 14 January 2019 with construction anticipated to be completed by March 2019, subject to weather and site conditions.

Disruption Expected: Site, Traffic and Pedestrian Management will be in place for the entire duration of works to maintain public safety. Every effort will be made to minimize inconvenience however there may be some minor disturbance to residents during this time.

McClelland Drive, Langwarrin - Road Rehabilitation

Description of Works: Stabilising of existing road surface and placement of an asphalt spray seal surface on McClelland Drive (between Robinsons Rd and Golf Links Rd)

Timing of Works: Starting 7 January 2019 and anticipate completion by first week February 2019, weather permitting.

Disruption Expected: Road will be closed with access only to residents directly needing access to their properties, please follow detours that will be in place. Vehicle access to properties will be maintained as far as practicable during the works, however some delays can be expected.

Skye Road, Frankston - Rehabilitation Project

Description of Works: Stabilising of existing road surface East Bound lane and placement of a new asphalt  surface from McMahons Road to Amber Crescent.

Timing of Works: Starting 7 January 2019 and anticipate completion by mid February 2019  (weather and site permitting)

Disruption Expected: Site, traffic and pedestrian management will be in place for the entire duration of works to maintain public safety. Traffic will most likely be affected while this work is being undertaken.

Valley Road, Langwarrin - Reconstruction Works

Description of Works: The works will involve the excavation, services installation and road pavement reconstruction along Valley Road from McClelland Drive to Potts Rd and during these works; construction vehicles will access the works along Valley Road.

Timing of Works: Works are expected to start during the first week of January 2019 and be completed by April 2019; with the working hours being 07:30am to 5pm Monday to Friday and on occasions a Saturday

Disruption Expected: Traffic management measures will be applied to ensure the safety of workers, residents and the community.

Ballam Park South Sports Pavillion Construction

Location: 260R Cranbourne Road, Frankston (Behind Ballam Park Playground)

Description of Works:

  • Install temporary storage containers (already delivered on site)
  • Demolition of existing pavilion
  • Install temporary portable change rooms
  • Install temporary site shed and site hoarding
  • Construction of new Ballam Park South Sports Pavilion
  • Associated services and landscape works
  • Associated carparks

Timing of Works: Commencing Monday 14 January 2019 with construction anticipated to be complete within 12 months subject to weather and site conditions.

Disruption Expected: Access to the pavilion and immediate surrounding area as illustrated on the attached site establishment plan will be restricted for the duration of Works.

Construction of Cranhaven Road, Langwarrin

Project Details: Road construction including stormwater drainage, kerb and channel, footpath construction, road pavement and asphalt works, and reinstatements to vehicle crossings and nature strips.

Timing of Works: Works will commence in the first week of January 2019 and are expected to take around 6-8 weeks to complete, subject to weather conditions.

Disruptions Expected: Some minor delays can be expected due to construction activity. Traffic management will be onsite whilst works are in progress to assist with access to properties.

Paratea Kindergarten Refurbishment Works

Location: 1/12R Paratea Avenue, Frankston South

Description of Works:

  • Site establishment (Set up site compound, environmental protection measures)
  • Internal and external demolition works
  • Construction of new entrance verandah
  • Internal alterations
  • New internal fit out

Timing of Works: Works are scheduled to commence on Wednesday 5 December 2018 with expected completion by first week of February 2019. 

Disruption Expected: The Centre will be closed until mid February 2019.

Road Construction Works - Langwarrin South

Project Details: Road construction including stormwater drainage, kerb and channel, road pavement and asphalt works, and reinstatements to vehicle crossings and nature strips.

Location: Newton Avenue and Weeroona Road, Langwarrin South, including the upgrade of the intersection of Newton Avenue and Warrandyte Road.

Timing of Works: Works will commence on Monday 26 November, 2018 and are expected to take around 6 months to complete, subject to weather conditions.

Disruptions Expected:  Some minor delays can be expected due to construction activity. Traffic management will be onsite whilst works are in progress to assist with access to properties.

Upgrade Works - Bayport Reserve Playground

Location - 32R Richard Drive (Bayport Reserve), Langwarrin

Description of Works: 

The scope of works includes:

  • Demolition

  • Drainage
  • Grassing
  • Planting
  • Landscaping
  • Rock and Timber works
  • Park Furniture

Timing of Works:
Commencing Monday 19 November 2018 with anticipated to be completed early March 2019, subject to weather and site conditions.

Disruption Expected:    
Site, Traffic and Pedestrian Management will be in place for the entire duration of works to maintain public safety.
Every effort will be made to minimize inconvenience however there may be some minor disturbance to residents during this time.

Playne Street Pedestrian Bridge Renewal - Kananook Creek, Frankston

Description of Works: Replacement timber bridge of a matching style to the existing, with a wider deck to accommodate improved pedestrian access.

Timing of Works:  Fabrication for much of this bridge has been completed offsite, and installation will commence during the week beginning the 18 February, 2019. The installation process is an interesting one with cranes and temporary props being used, and we welcome those interested to visit and observe (from a safe distance).

Disruptions Expected: No creek crossing will be available at this location for a period of several months. Alternate crossings are available via Wells Street and Davey Street bridges.

Overport Park - Sports Pavilion and Oval Upgrade

Description of Works: Frankston City Council in partnership with the Victorian Government is developing an exciting new sports pavilion and upgrades to Oval 2. Key features will include:

  • Female-friendly change rooms
  • Unisex umpire facilities
  • Community room, kitchen and amenities
  • Public toilets and new car parks
  • Oval 2 refurbishment including irrigation and drainage and fencing

Timing of Works:

  • Oval reconstruction: August to December 2018
  • Pavilion construction: October 2018 to December 2019

Frankston Line Crossings managed by Level Crossing Removal Authority

Works Commencing: November 2015

Duration of Works: Ongoing for the next eight years

Location: Various locations along the Frankston Line

The upgrade of Frankston Station is expected to start in autumn 2018.

Description of Works: Removing 50 dangerous and congested level crossings will transform the way people live, work and travel across metropolitan Melbourne and improve safety for drivers and pedestrians

Disruptions Expected: Buses will replace trains during some stages and nearby car parking areas may also be restricted.
