Statement from Mayor Michael O'Reilly
“Through Council’s strong advocacy efforts we are delighted to welcome the recent budgeted Federal Government funding to construct new commuter car parking at Frankston, Kananook and Seaford stations.
Our ongoing lobbying of state and federal governments to deliver better car parking solutions for our community as part of the continued revitalisation of Frankston’s city centre has resulted in this fantastic win for the local community.
Earlier funding commitments from the Federal Opposition and Victorian Government showcases the importance in providing car parking solutions for commuters on the Frankston Line.
Given the commitment from both sides of politics to build commuter car parking in Frankston City, Council will work quickly following the outcome of the federal election to work on delivering this vital project as a priority.
In addition to delivering a new Frankston Station car park, Council continues to advocate to all levels of government for the electrification of the Stony Point Line from Frankston to Hastings. This vital infrastructure project will further ease car parking congestion at Frankston, Kananook and Seaford Stations while providing new car parking further along the line such as at Leawarra and Langwarrin.
Given this budgeted Federal Government funding matches the combined funding promise from the Victorian Government and Federal Opposition, should a Morrison Federal Government be re-elected Council urges the Victorian Government and Paul Edbrooke to ensure the funding commitment set aside for car parking remains in Frankston City and any additional funding is diverted to other vital city centre revitalisation projects."
