Frankston City Council, together with Frankston Life Community, is encouraging residents to support their community and donate a gift to the Christmas Giving Tree at Frankston Library.
Unwrapped gifts worth $20 or less and suitable for a child up to the age of 16 can be donated and placed under the Christmas Giving Tree at Frankston Library until Friday 20 December.
The presents will then be distributed at the Frankston Life Community Christmas lunch for disadvantaged families and individuals in our community.
Frankston City Mayor, Michael O’Reilly said the initiative will hopefully bring some cheer and ease the burden to those in our community who may struggle at this time of year.
“Christmas can be a challenging time for those who are doing it tough or who spend Christmas day on their own,” the Mayor said.
“Extending your gift giving and celebrations to those less fortunate is an awesome feeling.
“Just by placing an unwrapped gift under the tree at Frankston Library you could transform a potentially gift-free Christmas experience into a memorable moment for someone at the Frankston Life Community Christmas Lunch.
“I encourage everyone to consider adding a little something extra to your shopping list so that your generous contribution can go straight to supporting our local community.”
More than 400 guests are expected to come together for the Frankston Life Community Christmas Lunch.
More than 150 volunteers will roll up their sleeves to help out on the day.
Frankston Life Community Chief Executive Officer Pastor Mark Whitby said Christmas is an important time of the year to think about those less fortunate in our community.
“For many in our community Christmas isn’t a happy time,” Pastor Whitby said.
“The joy of giving, the joy of receiving, and especially the joy of sharing is what being part of a community is all about.
“The Frankston Life Community Christmas lunches are especially meaningful to the many volunteers who give their time on the day.
“It is an opportunity to serve members of our community who are often overlooked by the general population.
The Christmas Giving Tree is located at the Frankston Library, 60 Playne Street, Frankston, until Friday 20 December.
