Frankston Park Oval - Sports Lighting Upgrade
Frankston Park plays a key role as a home of the Frankston Dolphins who compete in the Victorian Football League (VFL) competition matches.
The proposal for the lighting to be upgraded to broadcast level will establish Frankston Park as a premium sporting ground. This will increase its capability to televise VFL matches and for hosting future Australian Football League Women’s League (AFLW) matches.
Frankston City Council is currently working on the design and delivery of the sports field lighting upgrade to broadcast level at Frankston Park Oval valued at an estimated cost of $2.5million. The project has both state and federal government funding and will be utilising efficient LED lighting.
The works include installation of four new light towers nearly 48 metres tall with associated light fittings on each tower. The project also includes the installation of LED light fittings on top of the Grandstand and Function Centre Buildings. As part of this project, one of the light towers located on north-west side will need to be located within the Plowman Place Road Reserve.
The lighting system is planned to operate at various illumination levels suitable for training (100 lux - similar to what is there now) and incrementally increasing up to the broadcast levels (1000 lux) as required for televised broadcasts of AFLW night matches.
The current designs comply with the spill requirements set in the existing and the draft new Australian Standards as shown in the attached documents.
