Draft Community Engagement Policy and Framework

Frankston City Council recognises that effective engagement with community is vital for decision making. Engagement can be both broad based and also involve targeted approaches to specific stakeholders.

To guide Council staff in engaging with local residents, clubs and businesses, a new Community Engagement Policy and Framework have been developed.

Council’s Process

Community Engagement Plans will now be developed and evaluated for each of the activities listed below. The community can expect Council to choose from standard consultation techniques, as detailed in the Community Engagement Framework for the following situations :

  • Development of new Council Policy or Strategy or Plan
  • Major Projects / Capital Improvements or Redevelopments
  • Planning Applications
  • Council Plan and Budget
  • Consideration of Sale of Council Land

Local Area Consultations

A new approach will be implemented, including at least, an annual consultation session in each of the city’s seven Local Areas ie : Frankston Central and Heights, Frankston North, Seaford, Carrum Downs, Skye and Sandhurst, Langwarrin and Langwarrin South, Frankston South and Karingal. These new sessions are designed to give residents, groups and businesses within each of the Local Areas enhanced and planned opportunities to engage with Council. These Local Area Consultations will not replace any existing consultations.

An information sheet with key points of the draft Community Engagement Policy and Framework, as well as the documents themselves are available to download. Hard copies are also available at Council’s Customer Service Centres.
