2019 Small Business Coach Panel - Expression of Interest

Council is seeking expressions of interest from successful business people to join the Small Business Coach Panel.  

Background

Frankston City Council’s Economic Development Strategy 2016-2022 (EDS) sets out the following economic vision:

Frankston City is the preferred place to live, learn, work, visit and invest based on a local economy that is sustainable, innovative and inclusive.

A priority contained within the EDS is to have a ‘vibrant and resilient small/micro business community’. There are a range of Council run programs to contribute towards achieving this priority – one of them is the Small Business Coaching Program.

The Small Business Coaching Program will provide independent and confidential advice from business experts to business operators in Frankston City. 

Objectives of the Small Business Coaching Program

  • Provide Frankston City Council businesses with a vehicle to achieve their business goals:

Assist start-up and established businesses to survive and grow, by taking them out of the day-to day running of their business to make them think about their objectives and how to get there.

  • Employment creation

Assist businesses to generate new employment opportunities in Frankston City, by facilitating business growth.

  • Growing micro and small business

Assist businesses to create a vibrant and resilient small/micro business community

Purpose and Functions of Business Coaches

The Business Coaching Program Panel (BCPP) will assist Council in advising and guiding small business owners in Frankston City in a variety of business related areas, by:

  • Conducting one-on-one coaching sessions
  • Providing Council with feedback on all participating businesses (as per report template provided by Council).

It is anticipated that selected coaches will be required for less than five business days per year.

Requirements

  • Curriculum Vitae (C.V.) Required
    The prospective BCPP members will need to submit a current C.V.
  • Police Check Required
    The prospective BCPP members are expected to complete a current police check (Voluntary Category) which Frankston City Council will subsidise.
  • Interview Required
    The prospective shortlisted BCPP members will be required to attend a 20 minute interview.

Membership and Requirements of the BCPP

General Business Coaching

Members will be paid a semi-voluntary (nominal fee) of $150 per day which will include five, one hour coaching sessions.  If the BCPP member is registered for GST, this will be paid in addition to the figure outlined above. 

Specialist Business Coaching

Members will be paid a semi-voluntary (nominal fee) of $300 per day which will include five, two hour coaching sessions.  If the BCPP member is registered for GST, this will be paid in addition to the figure outlined above. 

The BCPP will be made up of selected professionals/experts in some, or all, of the fields listed below:

  • Management professionals
  • Business and strategic planning professionals
  • Marketing professionals
  • Social Media professionals
  • Finance professionals
  • Legal professionals
  • Sales professionals
  • HR professionals
  • Export professionals
  • Tendering professionals
  • Council Officer (administrative member only)

Terms of Appointment

Frankston City Council will approach and appoint BCPP members through an EOI process.

  • The tenure of members will commence in 2019 and will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.
  • Frankston City Council reserves the right to appoint and dismiss BCPP members any time.
  • BCPP membership is semi-voluntary, with members to be paid a set nominal fee (as per section 5)
