The following is a list of services, groups and resources available to support our LGBTQIA+ community.

Frankston Youth Services
Frankston Youth Service offers a range of services and supports for youth aged 12 to 24 years who live, work and/or study in the Frankston municipality.

Mornington Peninsula Youth Services
Our Youth Centres offer young people 10-25 a safe place to connect with others, enjoy fun activities and programs as well as access to information and referral.

headspace, Frankston
headspace Frankston is a health service for young people in Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula area. We co-locate with several other youth services and also outreach into the community.  We are an inclusive service and a safe space for all young people. We are voluntary, free and confidential. Our building is fully wheelchair accessible.

Rainbow Door  (Victorian service)
Rainbow Door is a free specialist LGBTIQA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Gender Diverse, Intersex, Queer, Asexual, BrotherBoys, SisterGirls) helpline providing Information, support, and referral to all LGBTIQA+ Victorians, their friends and family.  

QLife (Australia wide service)
QLife is a free peer based service is for LGBTIQA+ identifying people and those who have questions or concerns about LGBTIQA+ issues. This includes families, friends, teachers and co-workers of LGBTIQA+ people. This service is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health.

Victorian Pride Centre
The Victorian Pride Centre houses major and important LGBTIQ+ resident organisations, and provides flexible and multi-use spaces for hire, including, meeting rooms, rooftop terrace, co-working spaces, a theatrette and gallery. Promotes LGBTQIA+ social connection, health and wellbeing, education and professional services and events. 

Victoria Police LGBTIQ+ Liaison Officers
LLOs can assist by providing discrete, non-judgmental advice and assistance in the reporting of crimes. They also provide advice, assistance and recommendations to Victoria Police on the policing needs of LGBTIQ+ people. LLO contacts are not a 24 hour service, if you require police attendance please dial Triple Zero '000'.  To find your nearest LLO see this contact list.

Social Support Groups

Peninsula Pride
Peninsula Pride is a Queer Straight Alliance (QSA) Youth Program funded through Victorian State Government’s Healthy Equal Youth project which aims to raise awareness, promote diversity, eliminate stigma and discrimination, and improve the overall mental health of young LGBTIQA+ people.  Facilitated by headspace Frankston and Frankston Youth Services, the Peninsula Pride group provides free support to young people 12-18 in both the Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula regions.

Mornington Peninsula Shire LGBTQIA+ Youth Activities
Mornington Peninsula Shire Youth Services will be hosting several inclusive events throughout the year for young LGBTIQA+ people and allies (aged 10 – 17yrs). This will be an opportunity to come together, form new connections and expand your social circle.

Rainbow Connections
Rainbow Connections Youth and Family group is a place-based social support, meeting fortnightly on the Mornington Peninsula. Families of all ages are welcome, and are primarily made up of trans, non-binary and gender diverse young people, their siblings and Rainbow parents/carers.

Out on the Peninsula
A diverse group of LGBTI+ friends living on or near to the Mornington Peninsula.  We plan events, visit to local restaurants and the like. We have a regular meeting on the last Sunday of the month. All are welcome - Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, Bisexual and Fluid.

Sport

Proud2Play
Proud 2 Play focuses on increasing LGBTIQ+ engagement in sport, exercise and active recreation. To do this, we work with all levels of the sporting community, from individual participants and grassroots communities, to state and national sporting organisations. We seek to encourage LGBTIQ+ people (as well as their allies, friends and families) to participate and engage in sport and exercise by providing structured opportunities and pathways for them to do so.

Frankston District Netball Association (FDNA)
Over the past few years FDNA has commenced on the journey and have worked on strategies to become a more inclusive environment for the LGBTQIA+ community. The association has:

  • Gained commitment from Operations Manager, Staff and Board
  • Worked on club policy and documentation
  • Policies inclusive of trans/gender diverse people on website e.g. Gender Regulation policy, Member Protection Policy, Uniform Policy
  • Registration form includes non-binary gender options
  • Formed a Community Strengthening Subcommittee which advises their Board on diversity. This committee has great representation of diverse community members.

Mornington Frankston Table Tennis Association (MFTTA)  
-Table Tennis 4 All-
MFTTA encourages all people regardless of age, gender, ability, standard and origin to come along and have fun. As a non-contact sport, table tennis provides physical and mental health benefits for the whole community.

There are members from the LGBTQIA+ community currently playing at MFTTA that have been supported by a number of strategies the association has worked on, including:

  • Having a dedicated Inclusion Officer
  • Visual Environment:
  1. Rainbow flags at the venue 
  2. A proudly inclusive email signature
  • Physical Environment: Unisex + Male + Female bathroom facilities.
  • Policies / Procedures:
  1. No gendered break down for competition, rather by abilities…. A grade, B grade etc.
  2. Inclusive statement on website. 
  3. Completed "Proud 2 Play" audit
  4. Liaised with Council, the Shire and Peninsula Health to host a Midsummer Festival event (unfortunately was cancelled due to Covid).

MFTTA are looking to start a weekly program exclusive for the LGBTQIA+ community and their families, friends and allies as well as provide a support network as required.

Belvedere Park Tennis Club
Belvedere Park Tennis Club have previously been involved with Peninsula Health- Health Promotion team and have over two years (pre-Covid) promoted LGBTIQIA+ inclusion at the club. Work included:

  • Implementing awareness training to club members
  • Incorporated Gender neutral labelling of toilets and change room
  • LGBTQIA+ flag and inclusion logo attached to fence
  • Are adhering to the Member Protection Policy of Tennis Australia in relation to discrimination and complaints
  • Facilitated a Rainbow Come N Try Tennis Event

Engage Frankston

The group supports us to:

  • Genuinely listen and learn from our diverse local community, to understand and include different views, experiences and expertise.
  • Ensure community feedback influences Council’s decisions and project outcomes. 

Mini Frankston City Panel
Mini Frankston City is our community of residents that gives us regular feedback on key projects and issues. The group is currently made up of over 500 Frankston City residents aged 15 and over, from all backgrounds and suburbs who share ideas and feedback.
