The library supports the community through lifelong learning, digital inclusion, creative expression, personal development, wellbeing, and building connected, skilled citizens.

For every dollar invested in public libraries there is a $4.30 economic return that benefits the community (based on research commissioned by the State Library of Victoria and Public Libraries Victoria Network).

The Annual Community Satisfaction Survey 2024 rated the local libraries a satisfaction score of 8.8 out of 10 (up from 8.7 in 2023) and rated their importance at 9.1 out of 10 (up from 8.9 in 2023).

Library Visits

The number of people visiting in the past 2 years was nearly half a million! This is an average of over 20,000 visits per month!  Note: Frankston branch was closed for renovations between December 2023 and January 2024.

Library Loans

Over the last two years, loans reached almost 2 million equating to approximately 81,000 items borrowed each month. A loan can be physical, digital or from one of our four outreach/non-library sites.

Library Membership

By the end of 2024, there were nearly 50,000 members. Membership is available to both residents and non-residents

Digital Services

Library members can book a computer at any of our three locations—Frankston, Carrum Downs, or Seaford—or simply drop in during opening hours to use a terminal without a booking. Free public Wi-Fi is also available at all sites. These services help build digital skills and support community members who may not have access to devices or internet at home, promoting digital inclusion and social equity.

Library Programs - Adult

The library team run many events and activities for adults. These include educational workshops, information sessions, author talks, and social groups such as Chatty Café and Crafty Connections. Over the last 2 years, over 1,400 programs were delivered to nearly 20,000 community attendees which is an average of over 840 attendees per month. Feedback shows that attendees value the ease of access to high-quality presenters and lifelong learning opportunities at no cost.

Library Programs - Children

Events and activities for children and families are the most in-demand programs offered by Frankston City Libraries. In the past 2 years, over 2,200 programs were offered with over 70,000 attendees. These events include daily Storytimes, after-school and weekend clubs, plus an extensive school holiday program that consistently sells-out and attracts waiting lists. Frankston City Libraries collaborate with local schools, kindergartens, childcare centres, and Maternal and Child Health Centres. This ensures access from birth to early literacy programs. Events and programs celebrating Book Week, NAIDOC Week, Science Week, Reconciliation Week and more are offered throughout the City with engaging and educational shows and presentations.
