3.1 The Public BuildingsShiresTwo years later the road district became a Shire and in 1971 a Shire Hall was built at Cranbourne.1 The first meeting in the new courthouse, post office and shire office building was held in September 1875.2 In 1971 the Melbourne and Metropolitan Planning Scheme proposed taking in Cranbourne, Langwarrin and Clyde, an extension approved between 1975 and 1982. Consultants Ashton and Wilson drew up a planning scheme for the west section of Cranbourne Shire outside the metropolitan planning scheme (which included some parts of the study area). The aim was to protect valuable farming resources, high quality landscape and conservation significance, as well as historic buildings.3 |
