Event Attraction Program
Frankston City has a growing reputation for hosting major events of a national and international standard, including: the annual Sand Sculpting exhibition on the Frankston Waterfront, the Frankston Waterfront Festival, Christmas Festival of Lights and Festival of Rugby.
In 2016-2017 five events were successful in gaining funding and/or in-kind support through the Program. These included:
- The Seaside Street Food Festival presented by The Food Truck Park
- Wells Street Christmas Twilight Market presented by Craft Markets Australia
- Feast at Frankston Waterfront presented by Fruitbowl Productions
- F18 and Viper Catamaran State Titles hosted by the Frankston Yacht Club
In 2017-2018 Council is keen to see even more exciting events added to our City’s calendar and as such there will be two funding and support streams available to event organisers depending on the timing and location of their event.
A new funding stream ($52,000) is now dedicated specifically to support events staged within the city’s centre, supported by the State Government. These event should activate the city’s streets, laneways and existing businesses to increase foot traffic and support local businesses.
Tourism events will be supported with $50,000 in available funding and applicants for this stream should note that the selection panel will be looking for event proposed to take place on under-utilised or private land and events which are staged over multiple days and/or locations during the off-peak and shoulder season (April-October).
In addition to these changes, events applying for funding and/or support in 2017-2018 can take place between 1 July 2017 and 31 October 2018.
