Power Tool and Battery Recycling at Bunnings Warehouse, Frankston

A new three month trial at five Victorian Warehouse locations offers a safe and easy way for customers to recycle power tools and batteries. From 11 February to 31 May 2008, customers can drop unwanted batteries and power tools at the Frankston Bunnings Warehouse stores to be recycled and diverted from landfill.

Eligible products include rechargeable power tools, electric (cord) hand power tools and rechargeable power tool batteries consisting of Nickel Cadmium, Nickel Metal Hydride and Lithium Ion.

Power tools will have their non metallic components removed and recycled, then be shredded to allow recovery and recycling of metals. They'll then be recycled into the manufacture of new products.

Batteries will be packed and shipped to approved battery recycling facilities and dismantled into hazardous or recyclable materials. Base materials are refined for use while hazardous materials will be treated through prescribed waste facilities.

Commercial quantities, leaking or damaged batteries, electric hand saws and non-hardware tools and equipment will not be accepted. Collection boxes for the trial will be located near the entrance of each store for easy access.
