Frankston City Council's Emerging Athletes Program is a source of funding for talented junior sportspeople up to 18 years of age residing within the municipality. This program offers them and their families an opportunity to access funding of up to $1000 each year and significant local media exposure in conjunction with The Independent News Group.
The inaugural program, from 1 July 2005 until 30 June 2006, featured 36 nominees from over 20 different sports.
Three young sportspeople are nominated each month. At the conclusion of the program at the end of June each year, 12 of these nominees receive total funding of $1000 from Frankston City Council and a sponsorship with a local business.
Eligibility guidelines include the following:
- Junior sportspeople residing within Frankston City
- Under the age of 18 as at 1 July
- Competing at State or National level in their chosen sport
Funds are distributed to assist athletes with ongoing costs associated with performing at State and National levels in their chosen sports. Nominations are selected by the Emerging Athletes Assessment Committee.
