Frankston City Council's Emerging Athletes Program is a source of funding for talented junior sportspeople residing within the muncipality.
This program offers families of emerging athletes the opportunity to access funding of up to $1000 each year, as well as significant local media exposure in conjunction with the Independent Newspaper.
The program features 36 nominees each year from a wide variety of sports.
Three young sportspeople will be nominated each month. At the conclusion of the program in June 2009, 12 of the 36 nominees were due to be selected as Emerging Athletes, and each received funding of $1000 from Frankston City Council and a participating local business sponsor.
To be eligible for nomination, junior sportspeople must:
- A resident within Frankston City
- Under the age of 18 as at 1 July 2009
- A competitor at State, National or regional level in their chosen sport
Funds are distributed to assist athletes with ongoing costs associated with performing in their chosen sports. Nominations are selected by the Emerging Athletes Assessment Committee.
Applications are now being taken for the 2008-2009 Program.
