Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention

Inspecting the new A-Frame signs to help prevent theft from vehicles

Latest News...

Statistics show there has been an increase in theft from motor vehicles throughout Australia due to an increase in petrol prices. These statistices include theft of number plates which are stolen to be used for petrol theft from service stations.

Also increasing is theft of other items from vehicles, such as car stereo equipment, mp3 players, wallets, mobile phones and other valuables, particularly from residential areas.

Keep Your Valuables Secure

While there has been a reduction in vehicle theft other forms of theft relating to motor vehicles is on the rise. Motor vehicles are often targeted for the valuables left inside. These may include mobile phones, bags, laptop computers, CDs, cameras, wallets and purses, and also for registration number plates. Often owners cannot claim these items under their car insurance.

Car thieves like easy opportunities. If they have to make a lot of noise, spend a lot of time, or risk being seen, then the chances are they won't bother. Minimising the opportunity for thieves to break into your car is simple if you take the necessary precautions.

As a result, Frankston City Council is implementing a Theft from Motor Vehicle Prevention Strategy focused on raising awareness of theft from vehicle in the municiplaity through local media and signage.

Frankston City Council is committed to reducing the nature and extent of motor vehicle theft in the municipality.
