New Drivers Kit

New Drivers Kit Frankston City Council has developed a useful kit for new licence holders containing important information about drink-driving and car theft prevention with the double aim of reducing the road toll and car theft in the municipality.

The joint Frankston City Council-Victoria Police initiative is supported by Frankston Autobarn and VicRoads. Seaford VicRoads began distributing the kits to all new licence holders in February 2004.

Not only is the kit educational, it also contains a 10 per cent discount voucher for Autobarn, car air fresheners and a specially designed "Lock Me or Lose Me" key ring.

Included in the kit is a questionnaire that aims to find out what young people think about road safety and car theft prevention. For those who completed the questionnaire, their name was placed into a draw to win a free immobiliser and installation voucher.

Our first winner was 27-year-old Frankston resident Emma Clark, who was ecstatic when notified that she had won the prize.

On 24 March Frankston resident Toni Verrity, 25 was presented with a free engine immobiliser and installation as the second winner in the New Driver's Kit Competition at Vic Roads Seaford Registration and Licensing Office.

It is hoped that the Kits reminded new drivers who generally own older vehicles to take care and look at ways to secure their vehicles. Ms Verrity's engine immobiliser will be installed free of charge by one of the local participating CarSafe immobiliser installers Bayside Auto Electrical, Compujection, and Traeco.

Feedback from the questionnaire attached to the kits demonstrated that the New Driver's Kits were well received by new drivers, including useful suggestions to improve the kits. In September 2005 a new and improved batch of New Driver's Kits will be reaching Vic Roads Seaford. The kits include more information on drink driving, road rules and prevention of car theft, as well as P plates, Autobarn vouchers, key rings, and car air fresheners.
