Hard Waste Collections

What is collected at Hard Waste

Free Annual Hard Waste Collection

The annual residential free Hard Waste collections occur from 24 October - 16 December.

Advertising and information regarding the annual free collection is distributed to residents via the local paper, our web page and a letter box drop to each household.

The collection will run over an eight -week period, and each household can place up to two (2) cubic metres, stacked into four neat piles - hard waste and salvageable items, metal waste , electronic waste and garden waste. This year in addition to metal waste, garden waste, intact salvageable goods and mattresses, electronic waste like computers and televisions will also be collected for recycling, keeping valuable resources out of Landfill.

Unlike the "At Call Hardwaste Collection", hard waste items for the free Annual Hardwaste Collection are to be placed on the nature strip for collection.

Please place all your items out on the nature strip no more than TWO DAYS prior to the Monday of your collection week.

Please Note:
Any residents placing items on the Council nature strip without prior approval may be treated as having littered and an infringement notice could be issued by Council.

Hard waste for the annual collection only needs to be placed on the nature strip for collection and not within private property, in parklands, vacant blocks or in bushland.

Any items placed on the nature strip that were not permitted to do so will be the responsibility of the resident to remove. Fines of up to $244.00 exist for not removing waste that was not permitted to be placed on the nature strip after the collection.

Items other than metal waste, garden waste, intact salvageable goods, mattresses and electronic waste collected through the Hard Waste Collections will NOT be recycled.

For information on where to recycle items such as electronic waste, mattresses, furniture, white goods and more outside of the Council Annual and At Call Collection Service, please go to the  Frankston City Recycling and Safe Disposal Directory page or visit the Recycling Near You website.

Alternatively, if your items are in good condition, post an add on Freecycle, Gumtree or Ziilch - free online sites to give away or sell quality items.

Freecycle
www.freecycle.org
The Freecycle Network™ is a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns and thus keeping good stuff out of landfills. Membership is free, and everything posted must be FREE, legal and appropriate for all ages. To view the items being given away or sought in Frankston, join up to the Frankston Freecycle group.

Gumtree: www.melbourne.gumtree.com.au

Ziilch:
Much like Freecycle, www.ziilch.com.au is a comprehensive re-use website providing individuals, not for profits, charities, waste management and council groups with an online resource for finding, giving away and managing re-usable items.

If it is your rubbish, it is your responsibility!

We are all responsible for looking after our neighbourhood, so do your bit by disposing of your unwanted goods correctly.

If you have rubbish that can't wait for hard rubbish day, and can't be donated to charity, you can book an additional collection.
