Peninsula Link
Peninsula Link will be a 25 kilometer road link between EastLink in Carrum Downs and the Mornington Peninsula Freeway in Mount Martha. Peninsula Link is expected to create thousands of jobs and significantly improve travel times through Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula.
An Environmental Effects Statement (EES) has been completed. This and further information about the project can be found on the Southern and Eastern Integrated Transport Authority (SEITA) website.
State Government Policy
There are a number of State Government Transport plans that will impact on transport outcomes in Frankston.
Victorian Transport Plan
The Victorian Transport Plan will set the agenda for transport priorities across Victoria. Projects identified in the Plan in the South-East Melbourne area can be found on the Victorian Transport Plan
Melbourne @ 5 Million
The Melbourne @ 5 Million document outlines the plans to manage growth in the Melbourne Metropolitan area in the future.
As part of this strategy, Frankston has been designated as a Central Activities District (CAD). A small number of designated Central Activities Districts will be the focus of a substantial proportion of future employment growth and public investment. They will provide:
- Significant CBD-type jobs and commercial services
- A strong and diverse retail sector
- Specialised goods and services drawing on a large regional catchments
- Significant opportunities for housing redevelopment in and around these centre's
- High levels of accessibility for walking, cycling, public transport or car by being located at junctions in the Principal Public Transport Network
- Vibrant centre's of community activity with a range of public facilities.
Regional Strategies
Mornington Peninsula Access and Mobility Study
In 2006, Frankston City Council and Mornington Peninsula Shire Council jointly undertook a study into the future transport needs of the Peninsula over the next 25 years. The purpose of the MPAMS is to examine the community's access and mobility issues and needs in the greater Peninsula region over the next 25 years, and to develop a transport plan that maximises outcomes from the existing transport system and identifies options for improvements.
Frankston and Mornington Peninsula Bus Services Review
The Frankston / Mornington Peninsula Bus Service Review is one of a series of reviews identifying how to better provide improved bus services throughout Melbourne's suburbs.
A final report has been completed and released by The Department of Transport.
