In 2012 Council worked with over 40 community members to create a Local Area Plan for the Karingal and Frankston East communities. This Plan is helping to guide Council’s decision making in the area during 2012 - 2016.
The community identified six priorities for their area:
- Establish the Karingal Committee
- Contained leash-free areas
- Community Garden incorporating Coffee Shop, Meeting Place and Redeveloped Tennis Club at Gretana Reserve
- Karingal ‘Kommunity’ Help
- Rental Bikes and Public Transport
Projects and/or strategies have been identified by the community to help to realise the community’s priorities for their area. A copy of the Local Area Plan is available from the Related Links.
A group of residents meet monthly to discuss upcoming projects and local priorities from the Plan. If you are interested in coming along to the next meeting or would like to find out more information about Local Area Planning please contact Frankston City Council’s Community Strengthening Department.
So far the Karingal Local Area Plan (K-LAP) working group have celebrated Neighbour Day in Karingal and organised and contributed to beautification projects at Gretana Reserve. They have also had input into Council’s amended Road Management Plan.
