Your guide to placing and managing reserves online.
You can reserve items held by the library either online or by asking for staff assistance.
You will be notified by mail (or by email if you have asked us to activate that option) when your reserved item(s) are available for pick up.
Library members can place reservations themselves by accessing the library catalogue either via the terminals in the libraries or via the library's website. You can have up to 10 reservations at any one time.
To place a reservation yourself, you will need your membership card number (ID) and a PIN. If you do not have a PIN, ask staff to add a PIN to your membership. You can do this in person or over the phone (9784 1020).
It is best to use the catalogue login before searching or placing reserves. This way, you can also check on your current loans and the status of any existing reservations.
Once logged in, find the item(s) you want and then either
- click in the box next to the title(s) you require and then choose the Reserve Selections link
- or select the Place Reservation option if you are in a title's entry.
Next, choose a pick up location.
If you are reserving from a single title entry that has more than one copy, you can use the Items to Reserve menu to select either any copy from any location or choose a specific copy. This may be helpful in cases where there are several editions of a work on the one entry, such as with travel books.
If you have selected more than 1 title entry, you have the choice of selecting the number of Titles required; this menu defaults to all titles. For example, you may have placed reserves on 5 title entries, but only require the first one available. In this case, choose Any 1 from the menu.
You can also select the reservation expiry date. The 'Not required' after menu defaults to no expiry, but you can choose other expiry times either from this menu or the date calendar link next to it.
After submitting your reservation details, the next screen will notify you of the maximum reservation allocation charge to be applied to your reserves. You can confirm or cancel the reservation process at this screen.
Once you have finished, don't forget to log out.
Reserved items found on shelf by in-library customers will be loaned to the member in possession of the item. The reservation will be given second priority,so that when it is returned it will be made available to the person who reserved it.
Note that not all titles are available for reservation. Items in the paperback, Reference and Local History collections, for example, cannot be reserved, nor can items that are Lost. Items from the Library's outreach collections at Library express and the Langwarrin and Seaford Council shops cannot be reserved.
You can check on the progress of your reserves or cancel or suspend them at any time prior to their allocation without charge.
To manage your reserves online, access your reservation details via the catalogue login. Once logged in, you can check on Reservations available for pickup (i.e., allocated) or use the Reservations not yet available link to cancel reserves or to see your place in the queue.
You can also cancel reservations in person or over the phone on 9784 1020.
If you are going to be unable to pick up unallocated reserves for some time, you can ask library staff to suspend your reservation. This maintains your reserve, but enables the item to circulate normally in the meantime.
