Frankston City Council is serious about its commitment to learning. We understand the value of education in enhancing people's quality of life.
Through extensive consultation, we have researched learning and education issues in Frankston and developed a Learning City Strategy.
The strategy will help the Council, education providers, businesses and governments to all work together to develop and promote "lifelong learning" in the municipality, giving all members of the community the best prospects in life.
Lifelong Learning
"Lifelong Learning" is the ongoing acquisition of knowledge and skills throughout our lives. We don't learn only while we are at school; we are learning every day from the time we are born.
"Lifelong Learning" opportunities include parents reading to their children, visiting the library, businesses taking on trainees and seniors returning to study.
Our Vision
"Strengthen the health, wellbeing and prosperity of all communities by promoting greater Frankston as a 'Learning City' and the benefits that can be derived by valuing lifelong learning and education".
Building a Learning City
Some Key Actions:
- Conducting skills audits of employees and businesses
- Holding career days
- Supporting parents to encourage lifelong learning
- Partnering with local media to promote "good news stories"
- Exploring ways to make better use of school facilities
- Enlisting support of local champions
Get Involved - Partners
Frankston City cannot become a "leader of learning" without the support and involvement of other organisations, individuals and agencies.
The strength of the Learning City Strategy will be the capacity of the Council to engage a broad spectrum of partners who have a stake in education and learning.
Some of the partners integral to the success of the strategy are:
- The Peninsula Education Precinct Management Group
- Monash University Peninsula Campus
- Chisholm TAFE
- Primary Schools
- Secondary Schools
- The adult and community education sector, including neighbourhood community centres and the University of the Third Age
- The Local Learning and Employment Networks
- Local business community
- Local training providers
