In 2008, after seven years on the Rye foreshore, Sand Sculpting Australia will be relocating to an exciting new venue - the 'Frankston Waterfront'. With Frankston beach, the pier and Kananook Creek as a backdrop, the area will be transformed as 3,500 tonnes of sand are meticulously carved into scenes from your favourite childhood 'Fairytales and Fables'.
Sculptors from Russia, Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Canada and the USA will join with their Aussie workmates to form a team of 18 artists that will carve the sand to 'life'. These creative and very talented people will work tirelessly for nearly three weeks to bring into being enormous yet finely detailed sculptures.
These carvings will take the form of scenes and characters from a variety of stories such as Hansel and Gretel, Tom Thumb, The Emperor's New Clothes, Puss in Boots, The Tortoise and the Hare, and many more.
Integrated with the sand sculptures will be our regular activities to keep the whole family entertained.
- Sand Sculpting Activity Passport
- Sand Workshops
- Tours conducted by our resident sculptor
- Beach Zone
During school holidays and on weekends and public holidays, there will be many more activities available including the Frankston Sea Festival over the launch weekend on 19 and 20 January 2008. Plus on a number of weekends throughout the exhibition, we will be co-ordinating with Frankston City Council to link in with some very special events. More information will be available later this year, so keep an eye on this site for dates and times.
Please note that this event is family oriented and child friendly, therefore it is a smoke free venue and alcohol is not permitted. Likewise, dogs are not permitted within the exhibition (guide dogs, hearing guide dogs and guide dogs in training excepted).
