Trees and Neighbours

Maintaining trees on private property

Pruning large trees can be dangerous. If pruning involves working off the ground, or using power equipment, it is best to hire a professional arborist.

An arborist can determine what type of management is necessary to improve the health, appearance and safety of your trees. A professional arborist can provide the services of a trained crew, with all of the required safety equipment and insurance.

When choosing an arborist, ask for:

  • Proof of insurance
  • Proof of qualifications and training
  • A list of references (which you should check)

Find out more about good tree care and management at the International Society of Arboriculture's   Web site.

Download a copy of the Living with Trees Brochure.

The Department of Justice Web site can provide you with advise on neighbourhood disputes such as overhanging trees from your neighbours property. This is a Free service and they will assist and, if necessary, mediate between both parties to assist with this.
