Native Wildlife

Southern brown bandicoot
Frankston City is home to a wide variety of aquatic and terrestrial wildlife, including mammals, birds, reptiles and frogs. A number of our faunal species are of regional, state or national significance.

Human activities can negatively impact on our wildlife. Just some of these threats include urban development, pollution, agriculture, changing land use, pest plants and pest animals.

Whilst some of our wildlife is protected within our natural reserve system, many species occur on private properties. Maintaining and improving habitat values on your property is vital to maintaining our beautiful and unique wildlife. Even activities that can appear small such as cutting down a tree can severely impact on wildlife.

Having wildlife on your property is something to be proud of as it is a sign that you are positively contributing to our environment, and that of future generations.

Get involved and find out more about wildlife by joining your local Friends Group or environment group:
