Marketing Development/ Research Officer

I had a full-time job in Burwood but was looking for something closer to home, so I applied for a part-time data entry position to get 'my foot in the door' of local government. Within 3 months I had the position as full-time Market Research Officer, which has gradually progressed to the Marketing Development/Research Officer.

As part of the Marketing Services Department I get to work with Marketing, Events, Tourism and Public Relations. I love my job because it is challenging and rewarding and because I if choose to, I get to do a lot of different things that keep me interested. No day is the same.

Council are committed to assisting you to develop in your own way and will guide you through your personal and professional development, I feel valued working here.

Senior Statutory Planner

I started working for Frankston City Council in 2008 and moved here after working in another Council.

In my role I assess all types of planning permit applications ranging from new uses, developments, vegetation removal and signage applications. The work I do is rewarding, as I am doing my bit for the greater good of the municipality.

Council understands the importance of a good work/life balance and are willing to accommodate this. They understand you need a life out of work!

Asset Protection Officer

As an Asset Protection Officer I attend various on-site vehicle crossing construction inspections and dispute resolutions, I respond to enquiries generated by residents, builders and contractors by phone, written correspondence and on-site meetings. I find it satisfying knowing that I am helping to create a better and safer place to live.

There seems to be unlimited training and self improvement opportunities! When I first started at Council I was employed in a different role, I got this position after applying for an internally advertised position and was successful.

Theatre Technician

I began working in theatre as a volunteer at school and working with amateur theatre companies. I volunteered for 7 years before I worked on a show at the Frankston Arts Centre where the Theatre Operations Coordinator met me and saw what skills I had developed over the 7 years and offered me a casual position.

Within 2 months I had been promoted to a permanent, full time position of Supervising Technician and have worked in this position for the last 2 years.

My role as a Theatre Technician is to provide technical services for theatrical shows. I may be required to use a diverse range of skills to get the job done! Generally I am required to operate lighting and sound systems, rig and fly scenery pieces and curtains, build sets, repair equipment, supervise events of up to 2000 people.

Every single day is different for me! I can be working with celebrities like Jimeoin, Ian Stenlake and Jon Stevens, running a venue with 2000 people and other days I could be offsite working on the Frankston foreshore for the Waterfront Festival. Some of the shows that come through the venue request extra ordinary things such as pools, boats and cars on stage using cutting edge technology and I may be required to adapt these extra ordinary requests to get the show on the road.

The opportunities at Frankston City Council are frequent and valuable. In the 2 years that I have been at FAC I have received training in Hand Fly Operations, Emergency Evacuation, First Aid, test and tag certification and I am now a qualified Dogger. Frankston work hard to ensure that staff have the tools and training they need to perform their roles at their peak.

Information on organisational changes and achievements flows freely and allows different department to cooperate and achieve common goals effectively.

And Frankston is a beautiful place, what's not to like!!

Direct Care Worker

I have been working for Frankston City Council as a Direct Care Worker since December 2009. In my role I assist people in the community that require a bit of extra care to ensure they have a good quality of life. It could be helping them do their weekly shopping, providing weekly respite or helping them around the home with daily cleaning or personal hygiene.

I love the people I work with both clients and staff and I feel very fortunate to have a career that is so fulfilling and rewarding, I make a difference in someone else's life every time I go to work!

Customer Relations Officer

I started out as a Front of House Manager at the Frankston Arts Centre 7 years ago.

When a Customer Relations Officer role became available I jumped at the chance and was successful in securing the position.

In my Customer Relations role I take incoming calls from residents regarding a huge range of enquiries, my days are never the same and I never know what the next call will be about.. The role requires a broad knowledge of Frankston City Council and the Frankston Community as a whole. Living as a Frankston Resident helps enormously. The opportunity for training and development and career advancement is better than any other place I have worked. I love knowing that there are always opportunities to work in other departments on a temporary basis giving me the chance to see what other career paths I may like to follow.

Coordinator Customer Services - Libraries and Learning

I started working with Frankston City Council in 2000, initially in Youth Services in various roles. In 2006 I applied for a position at the library and was successful, I really enjoy what I do and I believe having the opportunities to work in various positions have definitely been a major reason for why I love working for council.

My role is to ensure that every person that visits the library has a positive experience. I work with amazing staff who are equally passionate, enthusiastic and committed to making Frankston Library the best in Australia. The work I do is often challenging and rewarding, I just love it!

Asset Planning Team Leader

I applied for a graduate Traffic engineering position after I graduated from Uni. From there I was involved in the graduate rotation scheme. A short time after completing the scheme, the Asset Planning Team Leader position became available and I applied for and got the job.

My major role is Asset Planner - Roads. I look after the lifecycle planning of our roads, footpaths, bridges etc. I maintain and run the Pavement Management System and assist in the development of Council's Capital Works Program, especially the roads projects. I am responsible for Special Charge Schemes (constructing unmade roads) and I monitor the Road Asset Management Plan and Road Management Plan documents. I run the annual road reseal and asphalt overlay program worth approximately $2.5M over 2 years and lead a team of 3 staff members. I have a more balanced lifestyle working at Frankston City Council. They are more flexible then some other workplaces. It is very friendly and you can feel free to be yourself.

Road Safety Officer

Originally I started at Frankston City Council as a Health Promotion Officer. A few years ago after I finished Uni, when the position of Road Safety Officer became available I was very keen to gain experience in another team (Traffic Team) and applied for the position and was successful.

I love my job because I am kept really busy! There is no such thing as a typical day, which I really enjoy. On any given day I could be doing a braking demonstration for school students, talking to residents about traffic issues in their street or teaching new arrivals about Australian road rules.

We are really encouraged to get involved in Council activities and initiatives, and to develop ourselves. It's a great feeling to know that our work makes such a difference to our community, and we get to be involved in our city growing and becoming a better place to work and live.

Frankston Maternal & Child Health Coordinator

I chose Frankston after working as a relief nurse in many local municipalities for several different reasons, the work place was close to home, the people were the friendliest I had met on my journey and I was offered opportunities in education and management. Frankston Council provided sponsorship for me to return to tertiary education and I completed a Science Degree in Nursing, I worked with Frankston council as a casual relieving nurse for 8 years then took up a position as a permanent nurse until 1988 when I commenced the role as Frankston MCH coordinator.

The work I do is making a difference to families in Frankston by ensuring that MCH and Immunisation supports families with the services they need. I find it very rewarding when parents thankyou for making their time as parents easier. It is important Frankston is seen as a council that provides quality service to its community by its rate payers and other councils.

Aquatic Services Manager

The work I do contributes to embedding a values based culture, where customer service is delivered with a smile, where people enjoy their job and realise their potential and make the Frankston community a better place for all. The work I do is stimulating, challenging and at times complex, but it constantly engages my brain and creative side which I love. I have an awesome team which makes coming to work a motivator in itself.

There are a number of great opportunities to engage in projects that are meaningful to the community and will have long term improvements to Frankston. Working for Council means I have access to work placement opportunities that enable me to build a broader skill base and create career path options.

Transportation Engineer

After migrating to Australia 2 years ago, my first job in Australia was with another municipality as a short term contract of 3 months. By the time my contract came to an end, the position of Transportation Engineer was advertised at Frankston City Council, I applied for the position and was selected very quickly.

In my role I work with various stakeholders to deliver a wide a range of capital works projects ranging from design/construction of traffic treatments, pedestrian bridge, tennis court, various drainage projects and the list goes on.

The best thing about working at Council is the amazing work environment. The staff are friendly and supportive, there is a great work life balance as well as plenty of opportunity to develop skills in different areas of the organisation. It really is an enjoyable, creative and progressive place to work.
